Thermography is a non-invasive imaging technique that is intended for early disease detection of the diagnosis of many disorders including breast cancer, inflammatory breast cancer, pre-stroke, heart disease, deep vein thrombosis, reflex sympathetic dystrophy/complex regional pain syndrome, back, leg or headache, and even unexplained pain, TMJ, and other diseases.

It is currently recognized as one of the earliest methods of screening for breast disease. The American Heart Association suggests thermal imaging as an initial screening for heart disease.
